Expensive Repairs Required

My wife and I purchased the Kitchenaid KUDE48FXSS dishwasher in May 2013. We have no children or other residents, so its just the two of us and usually just dinner dishes to wash, so we use the dishwasher 4 or 5 times a week. We have experienced major breakdowns with this machine. In three and half years, our repair costs for it are around $675 - over half of the purchase price. It started leaking water from underneath after about a year, which required replacing the pump and motor. We had to replace the wheels on the lower rack and the rails on the upper rack, plus other parts. The top rack rails literally came apart in such manner that the rack fell out with cups in it upon opening the drawer. The dishwasher has to be removed from under the counter to replace the rails. One need not have an engineering degree to determine that the problems are related to poor quality components, especially the plastic parts on the drawers that break down quickly. Our repair person said the drawer rails are a common problem with Whirlpool/Kitchen Aid dishwashers. The rails cannot be repaired and must be replaced because of the design and construction. Just a very cheaply made machine overall.

after only 3 years of very light used. Drain pump started to make very loud humming noise. Nothing was stuck in pump. Had to replace Drain pump motor $90. It also leak from the diverter Motor shaft. I would not recommand that dishwasher to anybody.

Rack Rail Assemblies Keep Failing

We bought this in late 2013. Earlier this year, the right upper rail assembly (the part that holds the rack into the dishwasher) starting spewing out metal ball bearings. It seems the plastic piece that holds them in place was disintegrating (see photo, this shouldn't be visible). We had the repair company replace it. Last week, the same thing happened on the other side. When I called KitchenAid and the extended warranty company (tried both), I was told this is considered a "consumable" part and I could fix it myself. Sure, if I am good at pulling out and reinstalling my built-in dishwasher... This is a big hassle as it cannot be easily fixed. Required an expensive service call. Our fear is that this will happen repeatedly.

I purchased the Kitchen Aid model KUDE48FXWHO. I can honestly say it has been the WORST appliance purchase in my history. Not only that but I have called Customer Service and talked with over 7 people in the last 2 weeks "on hold roughly 30 minutes each call" and not 1 customer service member followed up for me. So disapointed in Kitchen-aid and how they DO NOT stand behind their product! frown emoticon

During first wash , I was unable to hear any sound from the dishwasher and I thought it is not even operational but when I went really close to the dishwasher I hear some sounds :-). It is very easy to operate. Even without the prewash detergent, I am always getting clean dishes in every run. The rinse agent is also used by this washer efficiently.

We bought this dishwasher one year ago. It has served us well. It runs quietly and effectively cleans the dishes. I do however have one annoying issue with it - that is, the section that stores utensils/cutlery is very poorly designed. Each time we take the cutlery out of the dishwasher after it has run, the holder lids dislodge. We became so frustrated with it that we placed ties on it to hold the top portions permanently in position.

Purchased over a year ago and it is super quiet you don't even realize it's on. Fits plenty of dishes. Only one complaint, l have a stainless steel door and when l took the protective cover off it left a discoloration on the door panel it looks stained.

This is not the original model that we wanted but the sales convinced us that it was a better deal. We worried that the buttons are hidden and would cause problems. But, it turns out to be a nice feature. It is quiet most of the time and we usually won't notice that it is running. Utensils sometimes are not cleaned after wash, that would be a concern. We usually make sure we rise off foods beforehand. Overall, we like it.

I love my new dishwasher as expected great performance. The only complaint I have is that the controls are across the top of the door with a thin space that runs the width of the door this is an area where crumbs are easily dropped and it is almost impossible to clean. Every time you open the door with this design feature you are accidently turning the machine on.

Love the ProWash feature. When we bought it a year ago, this machine was so quiet we wondered whether it was on. Dishes came out sparkling clean. After a year, there are some 'motor' noises during the wash, still much quieter than our old machine, but it is no longer 'silent'. Dishes still just as clean. If all you are washing are dishes and cutlery, this can fit a lot. Once you start adding bowls, slightly deeper plates, coffee cups, glasses, containers, pots..., it doesn't fit nearly as much. The rack are definitely designed for plates with no option to remove or lower some of the racking (with a couple of minor exceptions in the top rack) to deal with other things. You also have to be careful how you place 'non-plate' items; just because you can get them to fit, doesn't mean they will get clean. After several months of experimentation, I finally figured out a way to maximize what I can get in (a happy blend of plates and everything else that always needs washing) and have everything come out sparkling clean. I still think however there is a lot of wasted space in the non-plate filled areas. Overall I like this machine, but trying to get things that aren't plates to fit well is frustrating.

This machine is just over 1 year old and the control board has already been fried. You have to have rinse aid in or else you will have wet dishes, takes double the amount of time the old dish washer took, but it looks really fantastic. Worst $1300 after repairs $1600 ever spent.

I purchased my Kitchenaid dishwasher which I was told was a discontinued model. After installation it did not work. I called the warranty service line and a repair person came out. He ordered a motor and a control board and returned a week later. He installed the new motor and so far everything is working great. Hopefully it continues to do so.

Have had this dishwasher since Nov. 2013. The silverware handles were too wide to fit in the silverware holder that comes with the dishwasher and the silverware holder kept falling apart...very cheaply made. Had to order a new silverware holder from Amazon that has slots big enough for the silverware. We check all dishes coming out of the dishwasher because sometimes the top rack dishes do not get clean even if we separate them well.

This purchase was part of kitchen remodel and I installed all new appliances from this particular line. The pieces are well-designed and the performance is quite efficient. My one concern is that the top shelf (for glassware) does not stay in place when I'm loading the lower area; it rolls out on its own which makes loading and unloading difficult. When it is operating, it is very, very quiet -- a strong selling point.
